Introduction
My last Christmas YouTube video was on five vegan Christmas gift basket ideas. Gift baskets are nice presents no matter the time of the year, except making one vegan can be a bit complicated when a lot of food isn’t vegan.
Check out these vegan Christmas gift baskets today.
- Vegan Fruit Basket
- Vegan Hot Chocolate Basket
- Vegan Santa Basket
- Vegan Elf Basket
- Vegan Movie Night Basket
1. Vegan Fruit Basket
Description
A fruit basket is pretty straightforward because you can add whatever fruit you want to the gift basket and then call it a day. Some other things that you can customize this basket with are nuts, nut butter, fruit cutting utensils, reusable produce bags, and a produce wash. Also, you may want to get organic produce over regular produce because many vegans prefer organic produce over regular ones.
Ingredients
- fresh apples (Fuji, Honeycrisp, Red Delicious, Granny Smith, Gala, Golden Delicious, etc.)
- fresh pears (like Bartlett, Asian, Anjou, and Concorde)
- fresh citrus (oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits, mandarins, kumquats, and more)
- 1 bundle of bananas (preferably greener so they don’t spoil before you give the gift basket away)
- 1 case of kiwi (available at Hy-Vee and Target)
- vegan nuts (optional like raw nuts from the bulk section or prepackaged nuts with a vegan logo)
- vegan nut butter (optional if they like sliced apples with nut butter)
- reusable produce bags (many available on Amazon or in the produce section of some grocery stores)
- produce wash (nice for people who love eating a lot of fresh produce)
- fruit cutting utensils (apple slicer, citrus juicer, or fruit knives)
No-No Ingredients
- stone fruits (not in season)
- grapes (easily get smashed)
- berries (too fragile and small)
- mangos (hard to find ripe in stores)
- avocados (too finicky)
- tomatoes (too messy)
- whole pineapple (too big)
- melons (take up too much room)
- canned fruit (most not vegan)
- applesauce (already have apples)
- candy (takes the focus away from the fresh produce)
Equipment
- 1 basket (available at any craft store or on Amazon)
- tissue paper (preferably Christmas colors)
- large cellophane bags (optional to wrap up basket after its completion)
- Christmas ribbons and bows (optional for decoration)
Instructions
- Put tissue paper in the basket.
- Have harder produce (apples and pears) and jar(s) of nut butter on the bottom layer of the basket.
- Make the middle layer citrus fruits, nuts, produce wash, and fruit cutting utensils.
- Top the basket with kiwi, bananas, and reusable produce bags.
- Use whatever cellophane bags, ribbons, and bows one desires.
