Introduction
As the leaves change colors and the weather gradually gets colder, I’m in the mood for some s’mores. What about you? Unfortunately, vegans like me usually aren’t able to make s’mores at bonfires and on camping trips because traditional s’more ingredients aren’t vegan.
Why aren’t s’mores usually vegan?
- Regular marshmallows are made with gelatin, aka bone char. Gelatin isn’t vegan or vegetarian because you cannot retrieve gelatin without killing animals. If you want some vegan marshmallows, try Dandies marshmallows.
- Hershey’s milk chocolate bars contain dairy. This isn’t vegan due to coming from milking cows. A vegan chocolate bar option is No Whey! Foods MILKLESS. Another option is one of Hershey’s new plant-based chocolate bars.
- Many graham crackers aren’t vegan because some contain honey. Even though some vegans consider honey vegan, most believe that honey is not vegan because beekeeping harms bees. Try these vegan homemade graham crackers from Pies and Tacos.
If you’re in the mood for some s’mores, try these vegan s’more recipes today, including but not limited to the following.
- S’mores Cupcakes
- S’mores Pops
- S’mores Bars
- S’mores Rice Krispie Treats
- S’mores Cookies
No Whey! Foods sell a vegan s’more kit seasonally. However, it isn’t that good. Learn more in my fall 2021 seasonal taste test.

3. S’mores Bars
Cookie bars are excellent for tailgates, potlucks, and barbecues. Here are some s’mores bars from Purely Kaylie.

4. S’mores Rice Krispie Treats
When buying cereal as a vegan, watch out for vitamin D3 in your ingredient list because it is made out of lanolin (sheep wool). Many vegan and vegan-friendly bloggers consider Rice Krispie cereal vegan, even though it contains vitamin D3.
Instead, use Arrowhead Mills puffed rice cereal to make these s’mores Rice Krispie treats from Crowded Kitchen.

5. S’mores Cookies
Cookies are easy to make and pop in and out of the oven. Make some vegan s’mores cookies with the help of The Vegan Harvest.

Here are some s’mores macarons from The Little Blog of Vegan.

11. S’mores Ice Cream
You can have ice cream no matter the season. Try some s’mores ice cream from Make It Dairy Free.

17. S’mores Bark
You can have bark more times of the year besides Christmastime. Try some s’mores bark from The First Mess.
