The Ultimate Vegan Pizza Guide

Here is your ultimate guide to vegan pizza across the United States based on over five years of eating vegan pizza.

The Ultimate Vegan Pizza Guide

Introduction

One of my favorite comfort foods is pizza. I’ve tried a decent amount of vegan pizza, from frozen to homemade to fast food.

Here is your ultimate guide to vegan pizza across the United States. This is based on five years of eating vegan pizza throughout the Midwest, DC, and Alaska.

1. &pizza

&pizza is a well-known pizza chain across the East Coast. My brother and I went to the location by Howard University before attending a Dodie concert in September 2019. Things have changed since then, like the addition of knots to their menu. I hope to go again when I vacation in New England in the next year or two.

2. Blaze Pizza

Blaze Pizza has your stereotypical college campus pizza: a little greasy, individual, and customizable. I’m slightly disappointed because their FAQ section asked how someone can eat there on a plant-based diet over saying vegan or vegetarian. It’s easy to tell what’s vegan or not using their nutrition tool called “Special Diets Wizard.”

3. Moose’s Tooth

Moose’s Tooth is a popular local restaurant in Anchorage, Alaska. One thing to note is they have over a 2-hour waiting period, so you should order way in advance. They have a vegan cheese option and plenty of veggie toppings.

4. Papa Murphy’s

Papa Murphy’s is a famous pizza place across the US, Canada, and UAE. Even though they lack vegan meat choices, Papa Murphy’s just added dairy-free cheese to the menu. Sadly, that was not an option at my local Papa Murphy’s the last time I was there around two months ago.

5. Pizza Ranch

The biggest pizza chain in Iowa is Pizza Ranch, and I bet it will be considered a national franchise in 5-10 years. Naturally, with my family being Pizza Ranch’s biggest fans and consumers, I find it easy to get vegan options from Pizza Ranch when I’ve ordered it 50+ times in the past five years. My normal custom-made pizza is a cheeseless pizza with broccoli, pineapple, and tomato slices with no cheese. Regular crust and pizza sauce are vegan, and there is even a salad bar.

6. Prospectors

The other Alaska favorite is Prospectors, a local delicacy in Denali. I had their vegan Margherita pizza, which was terrific. Their other vegan options include but are not limited to a meatball sub, a Tuscan white bean soup, two more pizzas (tundra and chorizo), and a side salad.

Here’s my vegan Alaska travel guide.

7. Smokin’ Oak

I haven’t been to Smokin’ Oak before, but it’s a favorite for many in Cedar Falls. This pizza franchise is relatively new and only open in a few places across the United States. They are known for their wood-fired pizza. Smokin’ Oak has vegan cheese and veggie topping options

8. Toppers

I went to Toppers once on a day trip to Omaha with my best friend to see her son and my godson. This pizza chain has locations in the Midwest and Southeast. We got their vegan cheese sticks (Veganstix) and a vegan cheese pizza, and they were amazing and tasted like regular cheese sticks and cheese pizza.

My godson had no idea about everything being vegan and liked that I ate the same food as him. I became vegan when he was one, so that wasn’t common.

9. Your Pie

My family and I went to Your Pie once when my youngest brother was dating his first girlfriend. It’s mainly in the Southeast, but four are in Iowa (Waterloo, Marion, Dubuque, and Davenport). It was pretty good. In terms of pizza, Your Pie has vegan cheese, sausage, veggie toppings, and one regular pizza order. You can also get vegan sorbet and create-your-own pasta.

Bonus: Magoo’s

Magoo’s is a local restaurant in Dubuque. It also has two food trucks in Dubuque and Des Moines. We usually stop at this place on the way home from skiing at Chestnut Mountain (Galena, Illinois) or Sundown Mountain (Dubuque, Iowa). Magoo’s lets you create your own salad and pizza. The vegan pizza options are vegan cheese and several veggie toppings.

Conclusion

I’ve eaten a lot of vegan pizza over the years, but I have many more vegan and vegan-friendly pizzerias to visit. If you like this, you may also like my collection of vegan pizza recipes and my vegan ice cream guide. Have a great day!
